Chess in Buenos Aires and the conurbano
Buenos Aires plays its chess in círculos and in the chess sections of the big sports clubs. Torre Blanca in Almagro, the Club Argentino in Recoleta and Mariano Moreno in Coghlan hold rated tournaments all year, while Huracán, Nueva Chicago and Independiente teach at their grounds. In the conurbano, Villa Martelli, Villa Ballester, Adrogué and Luis Guillón have busy clubs, and Vicente López and Tigre run free municipal schools.

Chess960 in Buenos Aires
Fischer Random has only a small foothold over the board in Buenos Aires. The Club Philidor's second Chess960 tournament was played in Morón in 2025 and posted on the tournament server, and Ferro Carril Oeste reports a team cup of May 2026, held for the anniversary of Ajedrez Martelli, whose rounds were played as blitz and as Chess960.
With the back-rank pieces shuffled into one of 960 starting positions, memorised openings stop mattering and both players are thinking for themselves from the first move. Until more clubs in the city schedule it, a game of Chess960 is always on offer online at ch960.com.

How to read an entry
Everything here comes from public pages: the FIDE list of rated tournaments for Argentina, the chess-results.com tournament server, news from the national chess federation and the Argentine Football Association, municipal sports agendas, local papers and the clubs' own websites. Each entry shows the date of its newest trace and quotes, usually in Spanish, the line it rests on.
Inside each list, entries run from the most recent dated trace to the oldest; the order is no verdict on any place. A question that no page answers is left as "not stated by sources". The status lines, the three source marks and the limits of the guide are explained under how entries are sourced.
Is a club, a café tournament or a class missing?
Some clubs here post their month as a circular on their own site; others use only social media. If an entry has fallen behind or a place is not listed, send a short note with a link to the page that shows it.
